Free Inquiry Forum - A weekly forum for those who enjoy a casual social gathering involving eating, drinking, and engaging discourse. Discuss, debate or just listen as we take a critical look at current events and subjects involving: Religion, Philosophy, History, Politics, Science and more.
"Those who are led by reason are truly free."
AGENDA & TOPICS
  • OPEN DISCUSSION - For the first 30 minutes of the Thursday night forums we will have informal open discussion. This will allow for late arrivals, food & drink ordering, and new attendees to become acclimated.
  • ANNOUNCEMENTS - Any events, news, or other items that you feel are of interest to the group can be announced at the start of Free Inquiry Forum.

TOPICS for Thursday (1/27/05) & Monday (1/31/05):

  1. This past Sunday, Johnny Carson died at age 79. Have recent news articles and reports about his life been accurate? What allowed him to be so successful for so long? During his career what impact did Johnny have on television, comedy, and the skeptic movement?
  2. As violence continues to escalate in Iraq, Al-Zarqawi has declared war on the Iraq election. How bad will things get before the Iraqi elections take place? With very few Iraqi voters knowing any of the candidates, their names or what platforms they're running on, plus a continuing threat of violence, can democratic elections really take place? Prime Minister Allawi has stated that U.S. troops will stay until Iraq can handle rebels alone and Bush is seeking another $80 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. How much longer will the war last and how much will it cost? When is the right time to pull out of Iraq? And is Iran next?
  3. Discuss the Sarasota Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival and the recently announced Oscar nominees.
  4. OPEN DISCUSSION.
