Free Inquiry Forum - A weekly forum for those who enjoy a casual social gathering involving eating, drinking, and engaging discourse. Discuss, debate or just listen as we take a critical look at current events and subjects involving: Religion, Philosophy, History, Politics, Science and more.
"Those who are led by reason are truly free."
AGENDA & TOPICS
  • OPEN DISCUSSION - For the first 30 minutes of the Thursday night forums we will have informal open discussion. This will allow for late arrivals, food & drink ordering, and new attendees to become acclimated.
  • ANNOUNCEMENTS - Any events, news, or other items that you feel are of interest to the group can be announced at the start of Free Inquiry Forum.

TOPICS for Thursday (9/16/04) & Monday (9/20/04):

  1. If you'd like to vote for a third-party candidate, but don't want to cost the Democrats or Republicans the election, there are sites cropping up that allow voters in swing states to swap votes with people in non-swing states. Is this a good idea? Should it be legal? What problems or benefits might arise if vote-swapping gained popularity?
  2. Does hypnosis work? Is it a form of mind control, a trance-like altered state of consciousness, suggestion followed by role-play type behavior, deep relaxation or something else? Is someone under hypnosis really giving up control? Can hypnosis be beneficial?
  3. What do you think about the claims made in Kitty Kelley new book on the Bush family? (e.g. G.W. Bush's cocaine use, etc.) What do you think about the claim in Seymour Hersh's new book that the Bush administration knew about the Guantanamo prisoner abuse by late 2002?
  4. Are the CBS Killian memos forgeries? How could The Weekly Standard analyze documents without every seeing the originals? How relevant is any of this to the upcoming election?
  5. Open Discussion.

Quote of the week: "It's absolutely essential that...we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again." [Dick Cheney - Campaigning in Iowa, implying that a vote for John Kerry would make another terror strike more likely.]
