FiF regular, Len Gumley, spoke with CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield about Walter Cronkite during a July, 19 2009 CNN segment.
From CNN:
It’s hard to imagine walter cronkite as a young, up-and-coming journalist.
But that’s exactly how Len Gumley remembers him. He is the former manager of CBS News studios in New York.
He shared his memories with Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday.

Len,
Thanks for your moving tribute to this respected icon of American broadcast news. We all will miss his dogged adherence to the highest principles of television journalism.
And thanks to you both for your selfless service to our country during WWII. Piloting gliders and participating in glider assaults had to be two of the most dangerous of all wartime missions.
You guys will always be heroes in the eyes of many, and rightfully so.

Jack, Thanks for the kind words, but I did not fly in combat. I crashed in Texas training for D Day, thus my life was saved. Walter flew into Holland as a war correspondan in a cobat CG4A combat glider along with a pilot, copilot and 12 troops. Len
